  • Note:  There are two references to Malcolm being originally in the 6th Suffolks before the war.  However his medal index card says he was Pte 1612 of the 4th Suffolk (Territorials) and this number does indicate someone who enlisted about 1913.  Malcolm would have been 17 or 18 by then and old enough to enlist in the Territorials.  His 2nd Battalion number is numerically close to William Hayes (43745),  William was in the 6th Suffolk (Cyclists) as Pte 1681, indicating that they  transferred together.  They were both born in 1895 and therefore would have attended school together.  They are both listed on the Schools Roll of Honour.
