Arthur was the son of Frederick and Lavinia (née Squirrell*) and born in 1884. In 1881 the family was living in Bramford at the “Works” in Paper Mill Lane but by 1891 they were living in Landseer Terrace, Bramford Road. This terrace of houses now forms part of numbers 445 to 535 Bramford Road and the house they occupied is probably No 493 the house they are found in, in the 1901 census.
Arthur married Florence Harriett Woollard in 1907. Florence, born in Sproughton in 1886, can be found in 1901 living nearby with her grand-parents at 95 Waveney Road. The couple lived at Poplar Cottages, Bramford Road and, in 1911, had two children; George (born in 1907) and Harriett (born in 1910). Arthur was a farm labourer.
A notice in the Suffolk Chronicle & Mercury of 11th October 1918 tells us that Arthur died of wounds on 18th September 1918.
He is buried at the Five Points Cemetery, Lechelle (Ref C 10). The
Arthur is commemorated on the Ipswich Memorial in Christchurch Park.
[*Lavinia Squirrell was aunt to Hanshard Squirrell – see his entry on the main Memorial – who was killed in action on 17th September 1918 just one day before his cousin, Arthur, died.]
